Local restaurant week encourages eating out

Western New York’s Local Restaurant Week runs Monday, Oct. 20 to Sunday, Oct. 26. The biannual event celebrates the role local independent restaurants play in the region’s cultural identity and economy. The event is produced and managed by Food Service Enablers and features 200 participating restaurants for the chance to discover locally owned eateries and sample featured dishes starting at $20.14.

Meals on Wheels starts annual wreath sale

The Meals on Wheels Foundation of Western New York has started taking orders for its third annual holiday wreath sale. The proceeds from each sale help to feed the homebound elderly and disabled in the Western New York area. Wreaths can be pre-ordered now through Friday, Nov. 21 by calling 822-2201 or by online order form at www.mealson wheelseny.org. All orders will be available for pickup the first week of December.

Self-advocacy group holding craft show

The Self-Advocacy Association of New York State will be holding a craft show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at the McKinley Mall, 3701 McKinley Pkwy, Blasdell. For more information, call 517-2342.

Chicken BBQ scheduled for Trinity Christian

A Chiavetta’s Chicken barbecue is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Trinity Christian School, 146 Reserve Road. Drive-thru is available. Historical Society’s next general meeting set

The next general meeting of the West Seneca Historical Society is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the West Seneca Senior Center, 4620 Seneca St. The guest speaker will be Jim Manley, who will address the group on West Seneca’s involvement in World War II. Manley is a Vietnam veteran and was voted “Citizen of the Year” in 2012 by the West Seneca Chamber. Refreshments will follow and everyone is welcome to attend.

Library participates in International Gaming Day

The West Seneca Public Library will participate in International Gaming Day from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1300 Union Road. The event is for teens age 12 to 17 years and features Nintendo Wii, board games, pizza and snacks. Stop in the library or call 674-2928 to sign up.

Event benefits Knights of Equity Charities

The knights of Equity and the Daughters of Erin will hold a meat raffle at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road. The raffle starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $6 which includes a roast beef sandwich, salad, dessert, beer and pop. There will also be a basket raffle and 50/50. St. John XXIII holding Vera Bradley bingo

St. John XXIII will be holding a Vera Bradley bingo on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the school hall on the corner of Seneca Street and Harlem Road. Admission is $20 for six games and six chances to win Vera Bradley bags. There will also be door prizes and chances to win gift baskets. Ladies Auxiliary hosting “Night at the Races”

The Union Fire Company Lady Auxiliary will be hosting a “Night at the Races” on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Union Fire Hall, 2055 Union Road, West Seneca. Troop 618 holding pancake breakfast

Boy Scout Troop 618 of Elma is holding an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at St. Gabriel’s Parish Hall, 5271 Clinton St., Elma. The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children under 10 and free for children under 4. The buttermilk pancakes will be served with a choice of toppings, including chocolate chips, apple, or strawberry, and with breakfast sausage patties, fruit cup, coffee, tea, milk, and orange juice. There will also be a bake sale and silent auction.

Shriner’s of WNY holding fall meat raffle

The Shriner’s of WNY will present their Fall Meat Raffle at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at The Shrine Center, 1600 Southwestern Blvd. West Seneca. Admission is $2 per person and includes beer, soda and sandwiches. For more information, call 674-8666.

Marine Corps League seeking members

The Conrad F. Kania Marine Corps League is looking for men and women to join the detachment. Those who have served in the U.S. Marine Corps and would like to learn more about the league are encouraged to attend one of the detachment meetings. An evening of Halloween tales is planned from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the West Seneca Library, 1300 Union Road. The event is for children in kindergarten through grade 3. Registration is required and costumes are encouraged.

The family of Tracy Lambert will hold a benefit from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Harvey D. Morin VFW Post at 965 Center Road in West Seneca. Event tickets are ___ and cover food and beverages. Tracy Lambert is a West Seneca resident suffering from Arteriovenous Malformation, a collection of abnormal blood vessels and arteries growing into one another.
